Abu Dhabi and Eight Sleep Partner to Study How Smart Bed Technology Could Manage Sleep Apnoea
On August 6, 2026, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) and Eight Sleep, a global sleep technology company, announced a Memorandum of Understanding to conduct a clinical study in Abu Dhabi. This partnership aims to investigate how AI-powered smart bed technology can contribute to the management of sleep apnea. The 12-week study, led by Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC), will collect continuous sleep and physiological data, such as heart rate, breathing rate, and positional data, from Eight Sleep's technology. This data will be integrated with Abu Dhabi’s existing population health data, including clinical, genomic, and lifestyle information, to identify patterns that could inform future treatment pathways. The initiative seeks to generate real-world evidence on the responsible integration of consumer health technology into clinical care and preventive health models, potentially impacting personalized care pathways for sleep-related disorders.
